Project Description

Restore is a restorative justice approach for youth between the ages of 12-17 who are first time offenders and have been warned about, or charged with, shoplifting. The program helps youth repair harm their actions have caused rather than focusing on the crime exclusively. The EPS Youth Service Section works in partnership with Extra Judicial Sanctions (EJS) referrals with selected stores in Edmonton. The program aims to deter further criminal activity in first time young offenders, and; through a restorative justice process, the youth are better able to understand the ripple effect of shoplifting and to make amends in ways that are meaningful to themselves, their family, the victim and the community.
